Children & Young Adult Injuries

Children are not small adults. Paediatric and youth sports medicine is a special focus at Beckford Sports Medicine. Children’s bodies are constantly changing, and they develop unique injuries that are often missed or misdiagnosed. During growth spurts, bones lengthen faster than muscles and tendons, placing extra strain on growing joints. Children of the same age can also differ by up to five years in biological maturity, so every young athlete needs individual care. Early, accurate diagnosis is vital. A missed growth plate injury can affect how a bone grows, and an unrecognised stress injury can mean months away from sport rather than weeks. We take a holistic approach that considers your child’s growth and development, training load and nutrition alongside the injury itself. With prompt assessment, imaging when needed and a clear plan, we help young athletes recover safely, build strength and good technique, and keep enjoying the sport they love. And keep an eye out for Flamie, our friendly little green dragon, who helps make every visit a little more fun for our younger patients.
